COVID-19 has film production on standstill but not the factory of ideas that Hollywood generates year after year. One recent hot commodity is comic book adaptation Ball and Chain, set to feature Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt as the stars, which multiple studios are vying for according to Deadline.
Johnson and Blunt will be reuniting after previously collaborating on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which is set to be released in 2021. Blunt is eagerly awaiting the release of her next project A Quiet Place Part II which was postponed amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Johnson and Blunt will be portraying an arguing couple who gain super powers that only work if the duo can properly cope with each other and settle their differences. The four-part comic book originally issued in 1999 features the aforementioned couple Edgar and Mallory Bulson entering separation territory. Both are looking to move until, until suddenly a meteor doses the fuming couple in extraterrestrial sludge which later provides them super abilities. The more the couple cooperates the more their powers will showcase.
Handling the script is The Big Sick‘s Emily V. Gordon alongside Kevin Misher who will be producing under the Seven Bucks banner. While several studios engage in a bidding war, Netflix is projected to be the frontrunner to acquire the film.
