Zootopia 2 has passed another milestone, this time becoming the highest-grossing domestic release of 2025. The popular sequel recently reached $424.2 million domestically, which has now passed A Minecraft Movie‘s $424.08 million. It is the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025, now sitting at $1.85 million worldwide. It is also the highest-grossing Hollywood animated film of all time, passing Inside Out 2 from 2024. However, the Chinese animated mega hit Ne Zha 2 still holds the title of highest-grossing 2025 film and highest-grossing animated film. It sits at $2.26 billion worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films ever.
The original Zootopia released in 2016 and made just over $1 billion worldwide. Nine years later, Zootopia 2 has now nearly doubled the original’s return. It has had longevity, as it still remains in many theaters despite releasing all the way back on Thanksgiving. After Ne Zha 2, Disney holds the next three highest earners of the year, with Zootopia 2, Avatar: Fire and Ash and Lilo & Stitch. A Minecraft Movie sits just below them, with a worldwide gross of $961 million. Most of these movies will live on, with many of them having announced sequels. A Minecraft Movie and Lilo & Stitch have sequels in the works, and Avatar has multiple planned sequels, although they have yet to be officially green-lit. With the success of Zootopia 2, it is very likely to receive a third film.
