Zootopia 2 was well fed over the Thanksgiving box office weekend. The film had an astonishing $556 million global debut, putting it up there with one of the biggest opening weekends ever. The film reached the fourth spot, behind only Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. All three Marvel machines reached beyond the $1.9-$2 billion mark by the end of their theatrical runs. So Zootopia 2 has already made its mark fairly early.
The animated sequel to the beloved Zootopia made $400 million from international markets and $156 million from the North American market. Zootopia 2 had broken numerous records in its debut, including the largest global animated opening, the largest international animated opening, and the biggest worldwide start of 2025. Collider noted that a large part of Zootopia 2‘s success has come from China. The film earned an outstanding $272 million in China.
With that, the film became the biggest non-local animated opening ever, the second-biggest non-local debut of all time after Avengers: Endgame, and the sixth-largest opening in Chinese box office history, including local films. Not even a full week in theaters, Zootopia 2 has already outgrossed Zootopia‘s entire Chinese box office run, making $236 million. The world of Zootopia has increasingly gained popularity in China. More specifically, Shanghai, since the opening of Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disneyland. With the film’s success, rumors of a third installment are already circulating on the internet.
ScreenRant has noted that the internet has found a huge easter egg that hints at a third installment. As Clawhauser is trying to find the password to a computer, the audience can see it is written on a sticky note. The password on the note reads “P@Rt3izFr&BrdZ.” Online, the common belief is that the final characters of the password are “r2,” which would make the full password, “P@Rt3izFr&BrdZr2.” This can be decoded to “Part 3 is for real and birds are too.” There has been no confirmation of a third Zootopia, but Disney has been known for their easter egg teasers. So it is definitely possible this was the first hint at a trilogy. But for now, Zootopia 2 is available in theaters.
