Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good are making huge numbers at the box office, both domestically and internationally. Since its release on Wednesday, Zootopia 2, the sequel to the billion-dollar-grossing 2016 film, has already earned $39.5 million domestically, following Tuesday’s preview screenings, which generated $10.2 million. Overseas, the film is doing just as well. In China alone, Zootopia 2 earned $34 million, the largest opening for an animated film in the country. Its overall overseas total is $81.1 million, $41.6 million coming from Wednesday alone. The film also had the biggest opening for an animated feature in multiple countries, including France, Germany, and Italy. For the six-day Thanksgiving weekend, the film is projected to earn $140 million or more worldwide.
Wicked: For Good, the big-budget adaptation of the second act of the Wicked stage musical, also did exceptionally well in its second weekend. The film earned $17.2 million domestically on Wednesday, putting its current domestic total at $194.6 million. Wicked: For Good is also projected to surpass the $200 million mark by the end of the six-day Thanksgiving weekend, with an estimated $268.5 million in earnings by the end of the weekend.
These numbers are excellent news for the box office, following the record-low numbers of October.
