The Absence of Eden, a thriller starring Zoe Saldaña (Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Adria Arjona (Hit Man, Blink Twice), has been picked up by Signature Entertainment for international release. In a multi-territory deal, Signature acquired distribution rights for the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. Signature Entertainment handles distribution for many films overseas, particularly in the U.K., where they are responsible for releases of recent titles, including Terrifier 3, Slingshot and Magpie.
Directed by first-time director Marco Perego, who is married to Saldaña, The Absence of Eden follows an ICE agent grappling with his morals while working with border security and an undocumented woman. Together, they fend off a merciless cartel while trying to save a young girl’s life. The film also stars Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) as the ICE agent. Co-written by Perego and Rick Rapoza, the script was acquired by the AMPAS library.
The film received mixed to negative reviews upon its 2023 release, though critics praised its relevant themes and Saldaña’s performance. While not a major critical success, the film highlighted Perego’s potential as a director, sparking interest in his future projects.
The Absence of Eden is now streaming on Hulu in the United States.
