Sony and Marvel are gearing up for their upcoming Spider-Man reboot–yes, another one–starring Tom Holland (The Impossible) as the eponymous superhero. This time, one of the main female leads will be a young lady named Michele–perhaps Michele Gonzales from the comics–played by actress-singer Zendaya (Shake It Up). It is unclear, however, whether or not this character will have any romantic affiliation with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
The film will be directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) and written by John Francis Daley (Horrible Bosses series).
It may seem silly that Marvel is making a new Spidey reboot this close to 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield, but this new film will feature a crossover into the Avengers Universe–a feat that starts with this year’s Captain America: Civil War. Fans have long been awaiting Spidey’s penetration into the Avengers films, and will finally get to see that inauguration on May 6.
The upcoming Spider-Man reboot is set to hit theaters July 7, 2017. In the meantime, Zendaya will still be starring in the Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover.
