Zendaya Cast As Ronnie Spector In New Biopic

Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) is now attached to direct the biopic starring Zendaya as Ronnie Spector. Titled Be My Baby, the biopic will be spearheaded by A24. Zendaya, who has been attached to the project since 2020, was handpicked for the role by Ronnie Spector herself before her passing in 2022. The film will be based on the memoir Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts, and Madness, or, My Life as a Fabulous Ronette. Dave Kajganich is expected to write the adapted screenplay.

Ronnie Spector was a 60s music icon who made it big as the leader of the girl group the Ronettes. However, the film is expected to focus on her relationship with her husband, Phil Spector. There is no set release window for the film yet, and with both Barry Jenkins and Zendaya being busy, it may take a while. Jenkins will be directing the sci-fi thriller The Natural Order, starring Glen Powell. Meanwhile, Zendaya is filming multiple projects including The OdysseyShrek 5Spider-Man 4 and Dune: Messiah.
