Amidst all the chaos of the Warner Bros. Discovery buyout between Netflix and Paramount, Zack Snyder has decided to remind fans of his past as the backbone of DC films. On his Instagram account, the director decided to celebrate reaching 500,000 followers by posting a never before seen photo of Henry Cavill as Superman along with a thank you letter to his fans.

In the post caption he said, “I just want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s joined along the way. For me, these characters are a kind of modern mythology, and I put a ton of reverence and respect into bringing them to life.” He continued to say, “Seeing that resonate with so many of you means the world. Here’s to many more stories together!”

A specific subset of DC and Snyder fans have been very vocal about bringing Zach Snyder back to DC to continue his universe, mainly using #RestoreTheSynderVerse, ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed the heads of DC Studios. Snyder has largely stayed silent about how his fans feel about the new direction for DC, but he has had nothing but good things to say about James Gunn. The two have even worked on projects together, such as Zach Snyder’s remake of Dawn of the Dead in 2004, for which Gunn wrote the script. However, the timing of this post is very peculiar, and it is entirely possible that Snyder might want to take advantage of the chaos to reignite interest in his DC films.

In reality, it is unlikely that this will ever happen. Gunn and Safran have already created multiple films and shows for the new DCU, with many more on the way. CEO of Warner Bros., David Zaslav, said this in the wake of the buyout: “The work of James and Peter, their creative vision, it’s compelling and a great economic return. There’s no storytelling content that we have that provides a bigger palette than DC, and there’s nobody around right now who can tell these stories with the same imagination and excitement.” There is still a lot more to come with James Gunn’s new universe, and at least for now, it is here to stay.
