Zach Snyder’s latest film, Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, was released on Netflix with a PG-13 rating. Since its release, Snyder has teased an R-rated cut and a sequel to expand this story.
Leading star Ed Skrein, who plays the antagonistic Admiral Atticus in the first installment, gives fans an insight into Snyder’s vision. “Knowing what we shot for the R-rated version, Zack and Netflix did an incredible job of putting together the PG-13 version. So it was always an interesting proposition to see what they did with the PG-13 cut, and I was really pleased. I feel like it’s a really strong piece, but the shadow of the Snyder Cut looms large,” Skrein tells The Hollywood Reporter. When asked if he knew there was going to be two different versions of the film, Skrein admittedly said he hadn’t although most scenes “lent themselves to the R-rated cut.”
Snyder excitedly confirmed a sequel titled Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, calling it “a war movie”, according to EW. Part Two will also get a director’s cut like the first film. The tale will continue and focus on Kora, Snyder teases. “The title has to do with Kora. We learn something in Part Two about Kora’s ‘crimes,’ what she’s wanted for, and why the Imperium is after her.” The director’s vision for the universe shows no sign of ending after the part-two saga as Snyder hints at a possible spin-off. When talking about the character Belisarius, he said, “This hasn’t been confirmed, but I was hoping if there were ever a spin-off, like a TV show or something, about the younger days of Belisarius, that I would love a young actor to play that part. So we just aged him for this.”
Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver releases on Netflix in April 2024.
