Zach Creggar’s Weapons has become a streaming hit on HBO Max. After finally releasing on HBO Max on Friday, October 24th, the film quickly became the most popular film on the streaming service in the United States. Currently, the film is Number 1 on HBO Max’s streaming top ten. Behind it are the A24 horror film Bring Her Back at Number 2, the Oscar-winning body horror film The Substance at Number 3, the live-action Scooby-Doo from 2002 at Number 4, and James Gunn’s Superman at Number 5.
This streaming success follows the box office success of Weapons. The horror film has grossed $151.5 million domestically and $116 million internationally, for a total worldwide gross of $267.5 million. These numbers are especially impressive given the film’s relatively small budget of $38 million. With this total, the film grossed approximately 7 times its budget.
The film was also a significant critical success, currently holding a 93% critics’ score and an 85% audience score on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. The film also holds an average score of 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb and a rating of 3.7 out of 5 on the popular film-oriented social media platform Letterboxd.
