Zac Efron will be swinging from vine to vine like Tarzan as the actor is attached to star in the upcoming adventure comedy King of the Jungle for AFM according to Deadline.
The film comes from the talents of directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy, Stupid, Love and I Love You Phillip Morris) who are working with a screenplay compiled by Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander of American Crime Story fame. The film is derived from a published piece by Wired writer Joshua Davis and tells the factual account of a tech wiz named John McAfee, famous for his creation of McAfee Antivirus software. Following the success of his software program, however McAfee fled society with his earnings and traveled to Belize where he would live among nature in a jungle encampment.
The film will see Wired writer Ari Furman, portrayed by Efron, take on the challenge of interviewing the rogue McAfee. Upon arriving at McAfee’s jungle hut, however, Furman becomes embroiled in the software developer’s misdeeds which include a murder.
Seth Rogen and Michael Keaton were initially involved with the project but left for other opportunities, leaving the film open to a new cast. Principal photography is slated for an early 2020 commencement.
