XYZ recently announced the creation of a management division designed to shinea light on international filmmakers. Former Universal executive Peter Van Steemburg has been selected as the program’s first hire, stemming from a long tenure of discovering new talent at companies like Miramax and ICM Partners. According to Hollywood Reporter, the management team will focus on global collaboration and building a track record with filmmakers from untouched regions of the world.
Van Steemburg’s previous work with XYZ films, best known for The Raid films and 2018’s Mandy, will contribute to that outreach. Van Steemburg has expressed his excitement to being working alongside the company, stating “Advocating on behalf of filmmakers is my greatest passion, and no other company is at the vanguard for distinctive and risk-taking voices like XYZ Films.”
XYZ moved to management due to recent events following their 10th year anniversary celebration, bringing on board former Global Road executive Tatyana Joffe as head of the international sales. They also hired Tamir Ardon to lead XYZ’s documentary division. While this new direction will talk a lot of work, and no new filmmakers or planned projects have been brought on board yet, XYZ Films seem to have a great team to start the management division’s initiative.
