Woody Harrelson and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are both set to star in Netflix’s upcoming film entitled Kate, about a female assassin who, when poisoned, hunts her murderer down to take revenge through Tokyo before she succumbs to her death.
The film was written by Umair Aleem and will be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, whose directorial debut was The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and was nominated for an Academy Award in visual effects for his work in Snow White and the Huntsman. Winstead has recently shown her affinity for action-packed roles after her parts in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and the upcoming Birds of Prey film where she will play Huntress, who joins forces with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Harrelson has also made impressive acting credits such as Solo: A Star Wars Story and Zombieland, which will be seeing a sequel later this year. Harrelson was nominated six times for an Emmy for his role as Woody Boyd in the classic sitcom Cheers, as well as three Academy Award nominations: one for best actor for The People vs. Larry Flynt and two for supporting actor in The Messenger and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Netflix won the rights to Kate after an aggressive bidding war in 2017 and has continued their drive to make this film stronger, hiring John Wick franchise and Black Panther stunt coordinator/second unit director Jonathan Eusebio and Academy Award-winning special effects/make-up designer Damian Martin, among other talented crew members. Production will begin later this year.
