DC fans finally have some Wonder Woman news – at least a little bit of it. According to Warner Bros., the Wonder Woman movie is finally moving forward, with filming set to start at the end of this year.
Gal Godot, the actress playing Diana, aka Wonder Woman, will begin filming at the end of this year, just as soon as she’s finished with another movie, Keeping Up With the Joneses. Gadot’s involvement in that movie was first reported by Deadline.
There hasn’t been much word on the plot of Wonder Woman yet, though producer Charles Roven has confirmed that Diana is the daughter of Zeus from Greek mythology, therefore making her a demigod.
For those readers unfamiliar with Wonder Woman’s backstory, in the comics she’s Princess Diana of the Amazons (based on the Amazons, again, of Greek myth) and goes by the secret identity of Diana Prince when she finds herself outside of her tribe. The movie will be directed by Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad) based on a screenplay written by Jason Fuchs (Pan).
Though there hasn’t been much revealed about Wonder Woman, there has been a lot of recent news on the other movies in the DC movie universe, particularly concerning Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice – Jason Momoa as Aquaman was just revealed in a tweet from Snyder (covered here). Wonder Woman is scheduled to be released on June 23rd, 2017, while Batman vs. Superman will hit theaters March 25, 2015.
