The 2025 awards circuit continues on its heading towards the Oscars. Among the other awards to be presented to the films of 2024, the Critics Choice Awards has crowned its winners.
Hollywood Reporter, who reported on the full list of winners, noted that Anora struck gold when it won Best Picture, beating out the competition of A Complete Unknown, The Brutalist, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, The Substance, and Wicked.
Although nominated for Best Actress, Mikey Madison did not win for her role as the titular character in Anora. Instead, the award went to Demi Moore as the fading celebrity Elisabeth in The Substance.
Hollywood Reporter also noted that The Substance was one of the most awarded movies of the night. Its other awards included Best Original Screenplay, and Best Hair and Makeup, as well as several other nominations.
Adrien Brody took home Best Actor for his performance in The Brutalist, adding another accolade for his work in the film. Starring in the leading role as László Tóth, an immigrant architect making a name for himself in America, Brody has also been awarded a Golden Globe for his work, among many other awards and nominations.
While The Brutalist was nominated for Original Screenplay, as stated, The Substance beat it out in that category. Best adapted screenplay went to Conclave, which was based on a book by Robert Harris.
