Actor William H. Macy joins Owen Teague, Freya Allan, and Peter Macon in 20th Century’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which Wes Ball will direct.
Kingdoms of the Planet of the Apes begins a whole new chapter in the story of the Apes, set many years after the end of the War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. The film is written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Ison. Joe Hartwick Jr., Jaffa, Silver, and Jason Reed are the film’s producers, alongside Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping serving as executive producers.
One of 20th Century Studios’ most popular and enduring franchises, Planet of the Apes has grossed over $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office. The first film in the series, based on Pierre Boulle’s novel, was released in 1968 by then 20th Century Fox and became one of his biggest hits that year, earning him an Oscar. It was then followed by four theatrical sequels and two television series. In 2001, Tim Burton’s remake of Planet of the Apes was released, followed by 2011’s remake of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, followed by two sequels, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
It is still unknown what role Macy will be playing in the film. This will be Macy’s significant role after coming off the Emmy-nominated series Shameless, which ran for 11 seasons. His most recent role was on Hulu’s limited series The Dropout.
