Will Smith in Talks to Star in ‘Gemini Man’

Will Smith is currently in negotiations to star in the long-awaited Gemini Man.

In 1997, writer Darren Lemke (Goosebumps) pitched this film to Disney. The movie follows a newly retired assassin forced to return to his old ways in order to take down his clone who’s 25 years younger and at his physical peak. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report Smith’s potential casting.

Since then the project has seen numerous filmmakers come and go on its journey towards production. David Benioff (Game of Thrones), Brian Helgeland (Man on Fire), and Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show) have all helped develop the script at various points. Both Clint Eastwood and Mel Gibson were once attached to star, with Tony Scott and Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) each having been slated to direct at different times as well

The primary issue cited as having been the cause for this 20-year long delay is that technology hadn’t caught up with what the film requires…until now. Relatively recent advancements in technology have allowed audiences to see Paul Walker perform posthumously, Carrie Fisher appear as a young Princess Leia, and even Tupac give a “live” holographic performance.

Now that we’ve reached these heights Skydance is moving forward with the project. As of now Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce, while Ang Lee is in negotiations to direct.
