Will Ferrell (Old School) and Michael Cera (Arrested Development) will work together along with Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich) in Captain Dad, darkly twisted family vacation comedy to be directed by Sebastian Silva of The Maid and Nasty Baby fame with Archer Gray and Anne Carey producing. Ferrell plays the controlling patriarch of the Peelman family whose attitude alienates his family during a vacation.
The picture, which is in development is being shopped by Protagonist Pictures with Christine Vachon executive producing through Killer Films, Variety reported recently. Cera has worked with Silva before on Magic Magic and The Crystal Fairy. UTA Independent Films is handling domestic distribution.
Ferrell recently quit a project based on Ronald Reagan’s last years. Controversy erupted over the tone of the film that dealt with Reagan’s dementia in a comedic way. Patti Davis even wrote open letter to Ferrell questioning his sensitivities and knowledge of Alzheimer’s.
Michael Cera’s is offering his voice for Blazing Samurai, which is currently in pre-production and Catherine Keener is doing voice work for The Croods 2, also in pre-production.
