While the rest of the cast and crew waited patiently for production to begin in Columbia for Sebastian Silva’s indie comedy Captain Dad, Will Ferrell unexpectedly dropped out of the project. The film also stars Michael Cera (Sausage Party) and Catherine Keener (Begin Again).
Production for Captain Dad was scheduled to begin September 26th in Cartegena, Colombia. Silva and the producers are now left scrambling to fill the title role Ferrell has abandoned. At the moment, the remaining cast and crew are awaiting word on the film’s future.Captain Dad ironically is about a family vacation that goes wrong after plans fall through.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources fear that the film could fall through and never get back on track in time to shoot. A representative for the film said that they are working quickly to replace Ferrell and will begin moving forward with production. We can expect to see an update within the next couple of weeks, for now, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope they are able to fill the title role.
Silva, who also penned the script for Captain Dad, gained an indie breakthrough in 2009 with his Golden Globe nominated Chilean art house hit The Maid. Since then, Silva made the Michael Cera twofer Crystal Fairy and the Magical Cactus and Magic Magic. Just last year Nasty Baby, a film in which Silva wrote, directed and acted in, debuted.
