‘Wildcat’ Trailer Showcases Maya Hawke

The Hawkes are teaming up! Ethan Hawke and his daughter Maya Hawke are credited in the trailer for the new movie, Wildcat.

The official synopsis for the film states, “Directed and co-written by four-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke, WILDCAT invites the audience to weave in and out of celebrated Southern Gothic writer Flannery O’Connor’s mind as she ponders the great questions of her writing: Can scandalous art still serve God? Does suffering precede all greatness? Can illness be a blessing? In 1950, Flannery (Maya Hawke) visits her mother Regina (Laura Linney) in Georgia when she is diagnosed with lupus at twenty-four years old. Struggling with the same disease that took her father’s life when she was a child and desperate to make her mark as a great writer, this crisis pitches her imagination into a feverish exploration of belief. As she dives deeper into her craft, the lines between reality, imagination, and faith begin to blur, allowing Flannery to ultimately come to peace with her situation and heal a strained relationship with her mother.”

The trailer features Maya sporting brown hair and glasses as she takes on the role of Flannery O’Connor. Although Maya has been seen on screen before, most famously in her role as Robin in Stranger Things, this appears to be a more serious and prominent role than she has previously taken on.

Wildcat also stars Phillip Ettinger, Rafael Casal, Cooper Hoffman, Steve Zahn, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Ethan Hawke is producing it alongside his wife Ryan Hawke among others. The film will be released on May 3, 2024.

Hannah Mitchell: Hi All! My name is Hannah Mitchell, I just graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a major in English. I am very excited to start writing for Mxdwn! I have been passionate about film and storytelling from a young age. My favorite movie of all time is Stand by Me. My favorite TV Show is Succession (a bit basic, I know). But I also love British TV and film and some of my favorite shows from across the pond are Crashing and Misfits. I actually met Jonathan Bailey in London which was incredibly exciting. Anyways, I'm ready to write for this site and am optimistic about my future here!
