Wild Canaries, the comedic callback to classic film noir will get a release date early next year after sweeping through several film festivals. The film features a newly engaged couple in New York City, and their amateur investigations into the death of an elderly woman in their neighborhood.

The movie stars Sophia Takal and Lawrence Michael Levine as the newly engaged couple Barri and Noah. Levine is also the film’s writer and director. Barri is convinced that someone was actually responsible for the death, but when the investigation starts to uncover startling secrets in the neighborhood, she isn’t sure of what she’s stumbled into. The film also stars Alia Shawkat, Annie Parisse, Jason Ritter, and Kevin Corrigan .
Wild Canaries was screened at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival, the 2014 Montclair Film Festival, the 2014 Bam Cinemafest, and the 2014 Traverse City Film Festival. The film will be released by Sundance Selects on February 25, 2015, in theaters.
