Why The Philippou Brothers Prioritized ‘Bring Her Back’ Over ‘Talk To Me 2’

Still from 'Bring Her Back'

2023’s Talk to Me was a huge success. On a budget of $4.25 million the Philippou brothers’ film made nearly $92 million. With success like this, it is no surprise that Talk to Me 2 was planned. However, the Philippou brothers’ sights were not set on a sequel. Instead, with A24’s approval, they made an all new, original film, titled Bring Her Back.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Danny Philippou said the following:

“When we submitted Bring Her Back to some of the funding places, they were like, ‘What about Talk to Me 2?’ So, there was pressure from people, [Talk to Me 2] was going to be the next project, but I was like, ‘I really, really want to make [Bring Her Back]. Is it okay if I make this one?’ So A24 was on board, and they allowed us to.”

Michael added to this:

“To go straight into Talk to Me 2 always felt like it would just be capitalizing on hype, as opposed to what’s the right story we want to tell next. We needed a break from Talk to Me 2, so we can revisit it with fresh eyes.”
