Whoopi Goldberg was spotted on the New York set of Jonathan Liebesman’s live-action reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT), adding to the already eclectic casting.
According to Comic Book Movie, Whoopi has been cast as an editor at Channel News 6 named Bernadette Thompson, a tongue in cheek nod to ‘Burne’ Thomson from the original cartoon series. She is the boss of reporter April O’Neil, played by Megan Fox (This is 40). TMNT is being produced by Michael Bay, who fired Fox from the upcoming Transformers 4 film; casting her in TMNT would seem to be Bay’s olive branch of reconciliation. Will Arnett plays April’s trouble-making camera man and rival, Vernon Fenwick.
The script, written by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Josh Appelbaum, and Andre Nemic, stays true to the original story, with Aliens having invaded earth and accidentally spawning a quartet of anthropomorphic warriors trained in ninjutsu who rise up to defend the world.
Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo hit the big screen in June of next year.
