Who is Paul Feig Gonna Call? Ladies!

Back in August we reported that Sony was considering Paul Feig to direct a new Ghostbusters film, and that Feig was considering an all-female team of Ghostbusters. Last Wednesday Feig announced on Twitter that those plans are official, he will direct and the new team will have “hilarious women.” Feig will also write alongside Katie Dippold of Parks and Recreation. The two previously worked together on The Heat, a buddy cop movie starring Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.

It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call.

Feig has not made any comment on which women specifically he has in mind for the new Ghostbusters team though McCarthy seems like the safest bet with Kristin Wiig right behind since both have collaborated with Feig on recent films. Bill Murray, who starred as Dr. Peter Venkman in the original film, also threw out both McCarthy and Wiig as people he would like to see in Ghostbuster gear along with Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone. “There are some funny girls out there,” said Murray in September, though he is not involved in the new film.

McCarthy has stated that she would be interested in joining the cast if asked. Other possibilities for the new team include Amy Poehler, the star of Parks and Recreation, as well as fellow SNL alum and frequent collaborator Tina Fey. Although, if you want a really outside-of-the-box suggestion, there’s also Tara Strong. Strong’s dozens upon dozens of prominent voice over roles include Kylie Griffin, the only female full-time member of a Ghostbuster team from the films or the cartoons.
