The Raid 2: Berandal (or whatever they’re calling it in America) is coming to theaters March 28th. As we’ve mentioned before, director Gareth Evans has added some comic-book-like characters into the mix, including the killer brother-sister duo, Baseball Bat Man and Hammer Girl. The latter claw hammer wielding vixen, played by Julie Estelle in Raid 2, proved to be popular enough with one Vlad Rimburg that he directed a short film based on her. That’s fairly impressive, a fan film based on a movie that, at this point, has only been shown at the Sundance Film Festival. Normally, you expect fanmade projects based on popular, long-running franchises like Star Wars or Batman.
The short itself – which, according to twitchfilm, was “shot over the course of just a single day” – runs about four minutes long, and is essentially one long fight scene – something fans of the original Raid should have no problem with. The fight choreography – also handled by Rimburg – is surprisingly good, even reminiscent of some fights from The Raid. Caitlin Dechelle plays Hammer Girl in the short. Tony Chu produced the film with Rimburg.
Check out the short – simply called The Raid 2: BERANDAL Hammer Girl Fight – below. Be warned; much like the original Raid, the fan film does not hold back on the brutality and blood.
