A new Wes Anderson film is on the horizon – more specifically, it will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May and in theaters June 16th. The film is called Asteroid City, and based on the newly released trailer, it will potentially feature the topic of aliens.
Throughout the trailer, Anderson’s signature style of editing and use of color are present, and there is a glimpse of some of the actors that will be featured in the film. Indeed this is a star-studded cast with the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Margot Robbie, Jarvis Cocker, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, and more.
According to Under the Rader, although the film is supposed to take place in the United States West, the scenes were filmed in Spain.
The trailer begins with Schwartzman’s character telling Hanks’ character to come to stay with Schwartzman’s children in Asteroid City, which appears to be known for a tiny asteroid landing there. As children remain in the city for a space camp, things turn when a real UFO appears. This appears to spark conversations about life among the characters. From the looks of it, it seems the film should take place in the 1950s.
