According to French publication, Premiere, Devo singer-songwriter Mark Mothersbaugh is going to be writing original songs for an upcoming musical collaboration with filmmaker Wes Anderson. This will be the first time the duo will be working together since The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Since then, Anderson has worked with Alexandre Desplat.
The musical is said to take place in 1950s France during World War II French occupation. Little is known about the project, including casting, but there is a rumor that a recent Oscar-winner may be headlining the film. If true, the prediction of Eddie Redmayne would be a pretty good guess. Production on the film is set to begin as early as this fall.
This will be Anderson’s follow-up to his stop-motion animated film Isle of Dogs. Based on these two projects, it seems that Anderson is definitely more in an experimental phase of his career (that is, if his entire career hasn’t already been deemed “experimental.”) Regardless, Anderson fans can rejoice that they’ll have a fresh, new twee-leaning musical to expect from their favorite auteur.
