“We’re on a Mission from God”. ‘The Blues Brothers’ Returns to Theaters for its 40th Anniversary!

The band is getting back together but that’s only the beginning in this wild musical comedy from the legendary John Landis- The Blues Brothers! This iconic musical which features some of the most iconic artists in the blues industry including Ray Charles, James Brown, Cab Calloway and the wonderful Aretha Franklin is returning to the big screen in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary! Starring comedic icons John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, this film started life as a musical sketch on the popular NBC program Saturday Night Live and is regarded as one of the best SNL feature films.

Released on June 20 1980, The Blues Brothers went on to gross $115 million worldwide, but the prior to the film’s success, faced a tumultuous production including delays and the over-the-top car crashes resuled in the film being one of the most expensive comedies ever produced. Still, the film gained a cult following and even produced a sequel eighteen years later titled The Blues Brothers 2000 which was a critical and commercial failure.

Fathom Events is hosting a two-day special event to show The Blues Brothers back in theaters. Whether you grew up watching this film or are a newbie, The Blues Brothers is one unqiue musical that’s sure to make you laugh, cheer and even sing-along to the songs! Rick Rice: A kid at heart who has loved watching movies from a very young age. Credit must be given to Siskel and Ebert whose film reviews educated me on the world of film inspired me to become a writer myself. I love to read books that range from various topics, copious amounts of research is something that excites me and of course sitting in a movie theater is a highlight of my life. When I'm not watching movies or reading I enjoy listening to foreign music and working hard on finishing my short stories. Currently working on my degree in English with a plan to enroll into Film School with the dream of becoming a screenwriter and director.
