Weekly Trailer Roundup – 6/1 thru 6/7

Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…

These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.

It was a busy week in the trailer-park, so much so that trailers for SXSW winner Short Term 12, both Liam Hemsworth‘s and Ben Affleck‘s new movies, and the first College Humor-produced feature, Coffee Town, didn’t make the cut. So what did? Glad you asked.

#5 – Man of Steel Final Trailer

It’s here. It’s almost here. It will be here next week. And I am a ball of nervous energy. The music in this trailer (not to mention the rest of it) doesn’t help that.

#4 – Eden Trailer

This has not been on my radar to this point, but if this trailer is any indication, it should be. Human trafficking is incredibly powerful subject matter, and it would seem this film does something with that potential.

#3 – The Family Official Trailer #1

Robert DeNiro has acted in Martin Scorsese movies seven times. Scorsese is the executive producer rather than director on this project, but still, the track record is too good to ignore. The abrupt tonal shifts in this trailer are pretty weird but this looks like a very solid action/comedy.

#2 – The Way, Way Back Official Trailer

What’s so intriguing about this trailer is that Steve Carell is the least interesting part. Sam Rockwell and Maya Rudolph look hilarious, Allison Janney is always a treat, and the script was penned by one of the writers of The Descendants. It looks very similar in kind to a number of other coming-of-age films, but it also looks like some fantastic fun.

#1 – Blackfish Trailer #1

Without question, this documentary trailer takes the top spot this week. I…just watch the trailer and you’ll see what I mean.
