Weekly Trailer Roundup – 12/8/14 Thru 12/14/14

Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…

These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.

Nothing sells an action flick to action fans like telling them you’ve got an actor who won an award for some mopey drama, and now you’ve got him fighting bad guys, firing guns, doing stunts (actually, probably not doing them), and running a whole lot. So, today we honor the upcoming action films with the good sense to have some Oscar winning (or nominated) actors in the cast.

#5 – In the Heart of the Sea

Okay, this one may not count. But, Brendan Gleeson and Cillian Murphy have like twenty non-Oscar awards between them. Twenty unimportant awards have to equal one Academy Award, right?

#4 – Wild Card

When Stanley Tucci was offered a role in a film involving mutilation and guns, he probably thought it was the sixth Hunger Games.

#3 – The Gunman

Where else have we seen Javier Bardem play a psycho who attacks women? Was it Skyfall or Love in the Time of Cholera? Probably Cholera.

#2 – Mad Max: Fury Road

Charlize Theron did extensive research and significant body work for her award-winning role as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. Think she put the same effort into a post-Apocalyptic character named “Imperator Furiosa”?

#1 – Kingsman: The Secret Service

If a movie featuring a battle in outer space and a beatdown on what looks the Jersey shore doesn’t land Colin Firth another Academy Award, then frankly we don’t know what will.

And the rest:

Insurgent

Blackhat

Inside Out

Still Alice

San Andreas

The Walk
