Moana 2 saw the duo of Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne Johnson) team up a few years after the first film and go on an adventure to reach out to other islands and join communities together.

According to Collider, the film was meant to be a series on Disney+ but the idea was changed into a theatrical film. The movie grossed over $1 billion at the box office globally. The film was successful with many families therefore creating success for the Walt Disney Company.

Behind the film were experienced animators. David Derrick Jr. had worked on animated films like Encanto and the newest The Lion King movie. Jason Hand has been a part of the Walt Disney Animation Studio for over ten years. Dana Ledoux Miller has worked on multiple television series and films such as Designated Survivor and Kevin Can F**k Himself (IMDb). The three creatives came together to direct the musical.

Since Moana 2, Disney has been focusing on sequels to their previous established films. This includes Zootopia 2 and Frozen Ⅲ

Look out for Moana 2 on Disney+ streaming March 12.
