Watch Michael Shannon as a Real Estate Crime Lord in ’99 Homes’ Trailer

Broad Green Pictures has released a trailer for the new real estate crime drama 99 Homes starring Michael Shannon (Man of Steel), Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), and Laura Dern (Wild). Garfield plays Dennis Nash, a single father who owns a house in which his mother (Dern) also lives. One day Rick Carver (Shannon) appears at their door to evict the family. In order to make the money to get his family back in their home, Dennis starts working for Carver. As he continues to work, Dennis’ job description becomes legally questionable and he eventually has to evict others from their homes.

99 Homes was written and directed by Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo), who wrote and directed the drama Chop Shop (2007), which followed adolescents in New York who make money for their families by selling car parts out of junkyard in Queens. While 99 Homes‘ material shares a lot in common with Bahrani’s past work, this is the most high-profile cast with whom the director has worked. The movie was a hit at the Telluride Film Festival last year.

Garfield recently played the web-slinging superhero Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, however Sony cancelled the franchise after disappointing critical and fan reception. Sony is now partnering with Disney to reboot the character, so he will appear in upcoming movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Garfield is also in the upcoming Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street) film Silence. Dern is fresh off her Oscar nomination for her performance in last year’s Wild and will be in the upcoming biopic based on the creation of McDonald’s restaurants, The Founder.

99 Homes is set to be released September 25. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer below.
