From actor-producer Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) and The Inbetweeners director Ben Palmer comes a romantic comedy about lying one’s way through the dating world. Lake Bell (In a World…) stars as Nancy, a disheartened single woman who gets mistaken for a stranger’s blind date and, after deciding to take a chance on it, ends up finding her perfect boyfriend, played by Pegg.
Adding to a variety of quirks—including a surprising English accent from American actress Bell—the plot seems to invert the typical gender roles employed by romantic comedies. Here, the man is being played and the woman is being told to “man up” and take charge of her life.
Written by Tess Morris (The Love Punch) and produced by StudioCanal, the film also stars Olivia Williams (An Education) and Ophelia Lovibond (Guardians of the Galaxy). US distribution for Man Up has not yet been set, but it will open in the UK on May 29.
