Watch Idris Elba Play the Bad Guy in the First Trailer for ‘No Good Deed’

British actor Idris Elba is probably best known for his deep voice, imposing stature, and roles such as Norse God Heimdall in the Thor series, giant robot pilot Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim, and  South African President Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Of course Britophiles, and actual people living in Britain may know Elba best for his role as detective John Luther in the British television series Luther. Sam Miller directed Elba in several episodes of Luther, and now the two will be teaming up again for the horror film, No Good Deed.

Terri (Taraji P. Henson) is a devoted wife and mother of two, living an ideal suburban life in Atlanta when Colin (Idris Elba), a charming but dangerous escaped convict, shows up at her door claiming car trouble. Terri offers her phone to help him but soon learns that no good deed goes unpunished as she finds herself fighting for survival when he invades her home and terrorizes her family.

This isn’t the first time Elba has played a morally questionable character (or one with an American accent). He played drug lord Stringer Bell in the first three seasons of the American series, The Wire. In the fifth season of the American version of The Office he played Charles Miner, a relentless jerk and nemesis of Michael Scott (Steve Carell). Even Luther, while a cop and the protagonist of his show, wasn’t exactly a nice guy.

No Good Deed is set for a September 12, 2014 release.
