Warner Bros is bringing a classic arcade game back to the big screen, as the studio revealed details this weekend about the upcoming animated Mortal Kombat film according to Movieweb.com. The film is currently titled Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge and will be anchored by a powerhouse voice cast including Joel McHale and Jennifer Carpenter as the primary leads, Jordan Rodrigues, Patrick Seitz, Hanzo Hasashi, Steve Blum, Artt Butler, Darin De Paul, Robin Atin Downes, David B. Mitchell, Ike Amadi, Kevin Michael Ridhardson, Grey Griffin, Satoshi Hasashi, and lastly Fred Tatasciore.
Ethan Spaulding, who previously directed Batman: Assault on Arkham, will be in charge of directing the upcoming film based on a screenplay written by Jeremy Adams (Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans). The plot and principal characters are directly inspired by the successful Mortal Kombat action/fighter video game series, which saw its original release in arcades across the country in 1992. Co-creator Ed Boon also will act as a creative consultant for the film while Rick Morales, responsible for the Adam West-inspired animated movie Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will produce alongside another Batman producer Jim Krieg, who assisted with Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. Sam Register will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
