Walton Goggins (Boyd Crowder on TV’s Justified) has joined the cast of Mojave, an existential thriller from writer/director William Monahan. Mojave is Monahan’s second directorial gig, following the Colin Farrell pic London Boulevard in 2010. Monahan also won an Oscar in 2006 for his work on the screenplay of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed.
Goggins first broke into Hollywood in the early 1990’s with a variety of minor TV and film roles, but is probably best known for his work on television in The Shield and Justified and his more recent feature work, which includes roles in Predators, Cowboys & Aliens, Lincoln, Django Unchained, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Machete Kills.
As for Mojave, Goggins’s role is yet to be revealed, although details on the project are being kept pretty close to the chest as a whole. Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) would appear to be occupying two of the leading roles, with Goggins and French actress Louise Bourgoin also figuring in prominently. The story follows an artist who seeks escape in the desert after being haunted by suicidal thoughts (thus the film’s title). His hermitage is interrupted, however, by a homicidal genius of a drifter who is also the artist’s doppelganger. Looking at the cast, it’s hard to say who should be the pair of look-alikes, but we’d say it’s possible Isaac plays the artist with Goggins on as his older double.
At any rate, we expect more details to emerge soon, as production is underway on Mojave on location in – you guessed it – the Mojave desert as well as Los Angeles. Mojave is expected to be released sometime next year.
