Known for roles in Justified, Vice Principals, and The Hateful Eight, actor Walton Goggins has been cast in the upcoming film, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film will serve as the second installment in the Scott Lang-centered franchise; its first film, Ant-Man, appeared in theaters in 2015. As of now, his role is unspecified.
Currently, the sequel will focus on Scott Lang (Ant-Man), played by Paul Rudd, and Hope Pym (Wasp), played by Evangeline Lilly. The first film garnered critiques on its treatment of female characters for several reasons, such as killing off the original Wasp, Janet Pym, and ensuring that she could not receive substantial screen time, as well as sidelining the extremely knowledgeable and experienced Hope in favor of Lang, who still had much to learn.
In the wake of the massively successful big budget superhero film Wonder Woman, the excuse that women do not draw box office numbers is becoming less and less viable. However, fans are hopeful that filmmakers have heard their critiques, especially given the title of the piece and the fact that it directly advertises a female character.
For those who wish to see more of Goggins before the July 6, 2018 release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, he will be appearing in Maze Runner: the Death Cure.
