Wake Up Dead Man, the third entry in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out mystery series, will receive a two-week theatrical release before its streaming premiere on Netflix in December, Variety reports.

Released in 2019, the original Knives Out introduced the eccentric southern detective Benoit Blanc as he investigated the mysterious death of a bestselling mystery writer. Its success would spawn a sequel, Glass Onion, in 2022. It would only play for one week in 600 theaters before moving to Netflix, much to the chagrin of series star Daniel Craig.

Now, the upcoming third entry, Wake Up Dead Man, will be released theatrically for two weeks starting in late November, before moving to the streaming platform. Johnson has said he plans to fight for the film to have a longer theatrical run.

Along with Craig, the cast will include Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

A poster and plot synopsis have been released along with this announcement. The latter reads: “…When young priest Jud Duplenticy is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. Wicks’s modest-but-devoted flock includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix, circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt, tightly-wound lawyer Vera Draven, aspiring politician Cy Draven, town doctor Nat Sharp, best-selling author Lee Ross, and concert cellist Simone Vivane. After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.”

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will be released in theaters on November 26th, before moving to Netflix streaming on December 12th.
