Samuel Goldwyn Films has just picked up the rights to the Sundance dramatic thriller Lila and Eve, starring Viola Davis (Doubt) and Jennifer Lopez (Enough). The story follows Lila (Davis), a grieving mother facing the aftermath of losing her son in a drive-by shooting. She goes to a support group where she meets Eve (Lopez), who convinces Lila to take vengeance into her own hands when the police fail to bring justice to her son’s murder.
Directed by Drumline‘s Charles Stone III and written by Patrick Gilfillan, the film also stars Shea Whigham (Silver Linings Playbook), Andre Royo (The Spectacular Now), and Chris Chalk (12 Years a Slave).
In a statement by Samuel Goldwyn Films, Peter Goldwyn commented,
Both Viola Davis and Jennifer Lopez deliver raw and searing performances as empowered female vigilantes struggling with grief and the need for revenge. We feel this film will play remarkably well to broad audiences and are looking forward to the opportunity to release it.
Samuel Goldwyn Films will release Lila and Eve later in 2015.
