Vincent D’Onofrio Says Netflix’s Kingpin Will Not Join the Marvel Movies

When Collider asked Marvel President Kevin Feige about a possible crossover between Netflix’s Defenders – aka Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist – and Marvel’s growing big screen superheroes, he simply replied: “It all depends on timing.” This has had Marvel fans hopeful for the future of the expanded Universe, as both the Netflix and film side of the coin have both turned in huge numbers and fanfare.

For Daredevil‘s Kingpin (aka Wilson Fisk, a favorite of the series played by the chilling Vincent D’Onofrio), however, the possibility of film crossover does not look good at the moment. At one point, the actor was rumored to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but that was put to rest quickly. He will be returning to the series’ third season, but D’Onofrio, in an interview with Digital Spy, had this to say:

I would love to switch over to the movies, but I think it’s pretty much been said it’s not going to happen. Or at least not for a very, very long time. I think [Marvel Studios boss] Kevin Feige explained that, and that’s what makes the most sense, he said the film universe is too jam-packed… It’s hard enough already, and if they keep bringing big characters in that they have to service in the writing, it’s not gonna work. They’re trying to figure out already how to individualise more and at the same time keep The Avengers going.

Until Daredevil returns, fans can see D’Onofrio on NBC’s Emerald City and in his recent role in the Magnificent Seven remake. Coming up, he’ll be appearing in the horror sequel Rings, and in the James Franco-directed In Dubious Battle.
