Vin Diesel could take pretty much anything and turn it into a Box Office success, and now, it looks like he and Universal have their sights set on the classic game, ‘Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.’ They are working with Mattel to create a live-action film based on the toy.
The original game features two player-controlled plastic robots in a boxing ring. Whoever’s robot’s head pops off first is the loser. It’s unclear how Diesel and the studio plan to bring it to the big screen, but it looks like they’re set on trying. The film will be written by Rampage writer Ryan Engle.
Diesel is mostly known as the face of the Fast & Furious film franchise. He’s also known for his roles as Riddick in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise and Xander Cage in the XXX franchise, both of which feature high-octane action. There may be other stars who could take on a ‘Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots’ film, but no one is going to do it quite like Diesel.
Some may remember a film from 2011 that starred Hugh Jackman titled Real Steel, which obviously took inspiration from the ‘Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.’ The film featured Jackman as a boxing trainer in a world where robots have replaced humans in the ring.
It’s unclear who will direct and who else will star in the film, but with Diesel in the driver’s seat, audiences are probably in for an exciting ride.
