Victoria Pedretti, who’s known for her role in Netflix‘s drama series You, is set to star as The Lovely Bones’ author Alice Sebold in Netflix adaptation of the writer’s 1999 memoir, Lucky. The film is being written and directed by 13 Reasons Why series veteran Karen Moncreiff and James Brown will produce, according to Variety.
Lucky follows Alice as an 18-year-old in her freshman year at Syracuse University. Following a traumatic experience where she was beaten and raped by a stranger near campus, the story centers around how the event shaped the rest of her life. The film is set to begin principal photography June 21.
The film’s description reads: “Intent on putting her rapist behind bars, Alice is equally determined to reclaim some semblance of a normal life. Refusing to allow her rapist to take her chance at an education and her future, Alice manages to reclaim her sexuality, her sense of self, and ultimately, her voice.”
Pedretti is set to continue her role in You for the series’ third season. She also recently starred in the streamer’s horror series’ The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, and made a small appearance in Quentin Tarantino‘s most recent film, Once Upon Time in Hollywood.
