As October draws to a close, theaters and studios experience a lull in attendance while preparing for winter releases and awards season as summer and fall releases finish their theatrical runs.
Despite significant anticipation for the third and final installment of the “Venom” trilogy, Venom: The Last Dance ends its opening week with only $51 million globally, including $22 million on its domestic opening day. This marked a record low for the “Venom” films as the iconic symbiote and his human host Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, couldn’t fill seats this time. Marvel hinted this may not be the end of the “Venom” story, teasing a possible connection to the upcoming, unnamed “Spider-Man 4,” as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has yet to meet the pair.
Other box office movements included Venom knocking Smile 2 off the No. 1 spot, even with a low opening weekend relative to its budget. Smile 2 held strong, staying at No. 2 with an additional $9.4 million in its second week.
DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot took third place with $6.5 million this week, marking a five-week run and a total of $111 million for the animated adventure.
Conclave, also premiering this week, secured $6.4 million and the No. 4 spot. At No. 5 is We Live In Time, which narrowly beat out Terrifier 3, now in its third week with a total of $45 million.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hangs on to the top 10 in seventh place, beating out newcomer Anora, in its second week and landing above Piece by Piece in eighth and ninth place, respectively.
Before its final farewell from theaters, Transformers One rounds out the top 10 with a current total of $58 million after six weeks.
