Following its Special Jury Prize win at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, NAZA, the investigative documentary examining the Israel–Gaza war from filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor (No Other Land), has secured a wide global theatrical rollout spanning 56 international territories starting September 28, 2026.
Produced by The Guardian and James Wilson’s JW Films (The Zone of Interest), the documentary is executive produced by Jonathan Glazer. International sales banner mk2 Films and The Guardian have finalized distribution pacts across major global markets, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Central America, and the Middle East. Ahead of its wider commercial rollout, the film will make its North American premiere on Saturday at the 64th New York Film Festival before launching theatrically in the United States on October 9.
The title NAZA derives from the Hebrew military acronym Nezek Agavi (“collateral damage”), a term utilized within Israeli intelligence protocols to denote projected civilian casualties preceding an airstrike. Shot entirely in Tel Aviv, the film compiles testimony from 24 anonymized Israeli military and intelligence personnel detailing the deployment of automated surveillance systems, artificial intelligence targeting software, and operational clearance thresholds used during bombardment campaigns in Gaza.
The announcement follows significant international attention and domestic political blowback since the film’s Venice bow, where it received an extended 25-minute standing ovation alongside political condemnation from right-wing Israeli officials. Addressing public threats and calls by Israeli cabinet ministers to revoke their citizenship, Abraham and Szor stated that they produced the project out of an ethical obligation as Israeli citizens to expose structural mechanisms behind civilian casualties.
Producers confirmed that the feature has been pitched to several independent exhibitors within Israel, alongside ongoing efforts to organize secure community screenings in the West Bank and Gaza. Following its international theatrical window, NAZA will be made available worldwide to stream for free on The Guardian’s digital platform.
