Jeron Braxton, who won Best Animated Short at Sundance for Glucose, is gathering top talent for his feature debut, Slime

The project announced Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi’s involvement back in 2023. Most notable in the latest casting additions is Willow Smith (I Am Legend), who will star as the lead, Muna. Muna, a financially struggling young woman, gets more than she signed up for when a paid medical trial gives her dangerous powers. She enlists the help of a lab worker named Glenn (Mescudi), who helps her search for answers.

Other new cast members include Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another), Anna Sawai (Shogun), John Cho (Harold and Kumar), and John Bogeya (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).

Slime is written and executively produced by Brian Ash, who is best known for his work on The Boondocks.

Slime will feature a retro animation style replete with sci-fi monster elements, backdropped by Mescudi’s original soundtrack and score. Based on Mescudi and Braxton’s past work, the film promises an original synthesis of their styles.

“I’m extremely excited to bring Slime to life and super appreciative to everyone around me who helped make this possible,” Braxton told Deadline. “Animation has always been an opportunity for me to shift perspective on issues affecting Americans and more explicitly the black diaspora, and now we can use the genre of horror and cutting-edge technology to create an insane evolution for the medium.”
