Netflix has rounded up its starring cast for its upcoming rom-com movie Love Hard; Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang, and Charles Melton are set to star in the project that the streaming platform acquired last August.
The screenplay was written by Danny Mackey and Rebecca Ewing, literary agent and screenwriter. Steven Bello will executive produce. The director is Hernán Jiménez, who also helmed About Us and Elsewhere.
Simply put, the pic is described as When Harry Met Sally meets Roxanne. The story follows an LA girl, unlucky in love, who falls for an East Coast guy on a dating app and decides to surprise him for Christmas, only to discover that she has been catfished. But the object of her affection actually lives in the same town. The plot continues to thicken even after the catfish incident when the guy who duped her offers to set them up only if she pretends to be his own girlfriend for the holidays.
Dobrev, former Vampire Diaries star, was most recently seen in Lucky Day and Run This Town. Her most recent project is Sick Girl, which just wrapped up production.
Yang has had a busy year so far, with Like A Boss and Sony’s Fantasy Island in his line of work. He made it big after starring in HBO comedy Silicon Valley. Love Hard doesn’t mark his first time with Netflix; he already co-starred with Steve Carrell in Netflix’s comedy series Space Force.
Melton plays Reggie in popular CW show Riverdale, which is on its fifth season already. He was most recently in the latest installment in the Bad Boys franchise: Bad Boys 4 Life.
