Deadline has reported on a new clip from the upcoming film Chee$e from director Damian Marcano.
The protagonist of the film is a drug dealer named Skimma who recently got his partner named Rebecca pregnant. The protagonist gives up his big dreams to sell drugs in order to support his future family.
The clip shows the introduction of “cheese weed”, as it is referred to in the film. It is described as highly potent marijuana that opens your “third eye.” The block of marijuana is wrapped in yellow packaging, which resembles a block of cheese, and has a dollar sign drawn on the tape around it. Sinister music plays as the dealer shows the block to potential customers.
The film stars Akil Williams as Skimma, Yidah Leonard as Rebecca, and Lou Lyons as Osiris. Lyons has appeared in one other feature film, being God Loves the Fighter in 2013 in the role of King Curtis.
Chee$e was originally a 19-minute short. The project’s rights were eventually bought back from Warner Bros. by Marcano and his partner Alexa. Marcano began developing it as a TV series but eventually shifted towards telling the story as a feature film. Chee$e will release on March 11th on SXSW and will release online on March 12th.
