Benny and Rafi Fine, the duo behind Fine Brothers Entertainment and a bustling YouTube channel boasting 10 million subscribers, have released a statement revealing their plans to write, direct, and produce an as-of-yet untitled teen comedy.
The brothers have partnered with Big Block Entertainment for their first feature-length film since their own high school years. The feature will be in the same vein of teen classics such as Can’t Hardly Wait and Mean Girls. They have described it as “an over-the-top look at the clique-filled world of high school.” Depending on how “over-the-top” they are planning to go, this reads as a general summary for just about every teen comedy since The Breakfast Club. That being said, the genre, and particularly its familiar plot structure has clearly not yet died out, especially as another upcoming film edging on this description, The DUFF, will soon have its release.
Judging by The Fine Bros.’ extremely large online following, and their complete control over story-telling, their take on the high school label revolution already has a built-in audience, putting it in the running for this generation’s formative teen comedy.
In the meantime, the brothers are currently working on the Nickelodeon televised adaptation of their famous YouTube show React to That, featuring youngsters reacting to various clips and videos.
