In a first for Universal, but a growing trend with Summer movies in 2021, The Boss Baby: Family Business will hit theaters and the streaming platform Peacock on July 2, 2021, at the same time.
This comes as a safety precaution as the pandemic slowly comes to an end, there are still many people that do not feel comfortable with returning to theaters just yet. However, it also comes as a pseudo-advertisement for the streaming service. WarnerMedia and Disney have done this precise form of advertising with same day streaming on their platforms, HBO Max and Disney+.
HBO Max made the bold statement by releasing their entire 2021 film slate on their streaming platform, while Disney has played it a little more safe with having most big releases pushed back. However, the response from film lovers to the HBO Max announcement has made the streaming platform one of the best around.
The Boss Baby: Family Business is a sequel to the strange 2017 children’s comedy The Boss Baby. Tom McGrath has returned as director and Michael McCullers has penned the script. Alec Baldwin, Lisa Kudrow, and Jimmy Kimmel all return, while Jeff Goldblum, James Marsden, and Amy Sedaris have all joined the sequel.
The first film received mixed reviews, but the general public enjoyed it enough to garner a sequel as well a couple seasons of a Netflix TV series.
