Universal Acquires Kay Cannon Directorial Debut ‘The Pact’

The Pact, a new comedy helmed by Kay Cannon in her directorial debut, has been acquired by Universal Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cannon wrote Pitch Perfect and its sequels; the franchise has been a big hit for Universal. The film stars Leslie Mann (The Comedian), Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad) and John Cena (Daddy’s Home). The screenplay was penned by Brian and Jim Kehoe, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Eben Russell.

The story centers on three parents who discover that their teenage daughters have made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. The parents band together to stop them from carrying out their pact.

The feature will be produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, under their Point Grey Pictures banner, as well as Hurwitz, Schlossberg and DMG Entertainment’s Chris Fenton. Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake will executive produce with Chris Cowles of DMG.

Universal has set a release date of April 20, 2018 for The Pact.
